2 Ingredient Homemade
Hot Chocolate
How to make the perfect cup of homemade hot chocolate with only two ingredients. This recipe is so easy and delicious, you'll never buy a mix again!
YIELD: 1 cup (multiply as needed)
TOTAL TIME: 5 minutes
INGREDIENTS:
For the Hot Chocolate:
1 cup milk, any kind you like (I usually use skim, but 2% or whole will give the hot chocolate more body; almond milk, soy milk, or non-dairy milks can be used well)
3 generous tablespoons semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate (I like a 65% or greater dark chocolate)
Ideas to Customize:
Pinch kosher salt (highly recommended for all flavor combinations)
Extracts: 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract or 1-2 drops pure peppermint extract
Pinch espresso powder (will enhance the chocolate flavor)
Whiskey, dark rum, or peppermint schnapps
For the Topping:
Whipped cream, marshmallows, caramel, or hot fudge
DIRECTIONS:
In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium high heat until steaming and small bubbles form around the edge (do not let the milk boil!). Add the chocolate chips and let melt, stirring occasionally, then whisk until smooth.
Whisk in any desired mix-ins. Serve hot with desired toppings.
